Thankful Thursday and the Albany Children’s Book Festival

1. I was delighted by the review of Borrowed Names on Letter Blocks: the B&N Parents and Educators Blog Sarah A. Wood also cites books related to the mothers and daughters who inspired my poems.

2. Slightly early congratulations to Ashley Winn, a former student who has almost completed grad school and can focus on “just” teaching English in the fall. I was touched by her current Facebook profile picture:

3. I’m very excited to see friends and take workshops with Kelly Fineman kellyrfineman, Jo jbknowles and others at the New England SCBWI conference on Sunday!

4. This Saturday, May 15, if you have time and live near Albany, I hope you’ll stop by the Albany Children’s Book Festival between 10 a.m. and 3:00 p,m. I’ll be reading from Borrowed Names, signing books, and abandoning my table now and then to browse the work of fantastic authors and illustrators including Karen Beil,, Jennifer Berne, Joseph Bruchac, Vicki Cobb, Elizabeth S. Falk, Daphne Grab, Amanda Marrone, Nina Nelson, Coleen Paratore, Doreen Rapaport, Alice Bauer … I’m sorry to go on., but so many favorites are showing up, and I’m sorry as well not to include all thirty-seven writers and artists. I hope you can come see some of these lovely people and their lovely books for yourself!

There’s a storybook parade at 10:15, food, contests, and prizes. Please check the link for directions to the festival sponsored by the Albany Academies and more details about the free event that’s open to the public.

  1. Ooh – I hope I have anything helpful to offer you!

  2. I don’t have a single doubt that it will be helpful and inspiring. Glad you’re being so productive on your retreat, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

  3. congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Thanks for the cheer!
