Coming Home Again

There’s a safe coming-back-home feeling as my freshly-revised chapters line up, and a sense that I’ve been somewhere new. Another journey for my novel will be starting, which will mean new daily chores for me here. A new start on another expedition.

And for those who wonder what it can be like to have a daughter off at college: E. called last night and I asked how her weekend was.
— Okay.
— No drama?
— Oh, there was drama. There were tears.
— Whose?
— Mine.
— Oh, no. Do you want to talk about it?
— Maybe sometime.

  1. That makes me smile, because I could have written it. Love it when she comes home, and we sit down together alone. That’s when everything SPILLS out and we reconnect for an hour or so.

  2. Ah yes, the phone calls home. I love the “hey guess what just happened” calls. But the “Moooom, can I talk to you calls” break my heart.

  3. Hmm. This sounds an awful lot like a conversation I could have with my 12-year-old son. Except we wouldn’t mention drama or tears, and the last answer would be simply, “No.” 🙂
It’s a great feeling being ready, or as ready as you can be, to send something out. Best wishes for that part of the journey.

  4. sounds lovely. I’m ready for that hour!

  5. I know. x o

  6. There are sweet moments when I feel like I’m reading somebody else’s book… and it works!
